Sunday, October 18, 2009, 8:45 a.m.
Leader: Charna Perloe, charna@email.com, 404-668-8554
It's time to get back into hiking, and this is a perfect hike to enjoy the changing of
the leaves in north Georgia. This 8.2 mile loop hike begins at Lake Winfield Scott
and incorporates three different trails. We start out on Slaughter Creek Trail with a
climb of 1000 feet in elevation over 2.7 miles before we reach the Appalachian Trail
with another ascent to the top of Blood Mountain. After lunch at the well-know picnic
rock, we'll come back down the AT going east and take the Jarrad Gap Trail back to
Lake Winfield Scott.
Ability Level: This is a moderate/strenuous hike. Total elevation gain
is about 1600 feet. For those who don't want to tackle the climb up Blood to
the lunch spot, you can wait for the group and do a shorter 6.2 mile loop.
Meeting Location: Mansell Road Park and Ride off Ga. 400, Exit 8
Meeting Time: 8:45am. We'll wait 15 minutes before leaving.
Thanks for being on time.
Bring: Hiking boots required, plenty of water, lunch, snacks, clothing
appropriate for the weather, optional hiking stick - useful for going downhill.
Dogs: Welcome. It's a popular trail, so make sure they're under your control
at all times.
Cost: Free to members, $5.00 for nonmembers or join for $25 annually.
**There is also a parking fee for cars at Lake Winfield Scott. We also ask that
everyone chip in for parking and reimburse their driver for the cost of gas.

Leader: Charna Perloe 404-668-8554 charna@email.com
This hike follows a trail up to the top of the mountain for 2.5 miles where we'll pass by an Army training camp and helicopter pad.
There is one rock-scrambling section, and the climb to the top is rather steep in places. If time allows, we'll take a side trail
to the western face of the mountain, the exposed rock section where many folks go rock climbing and rapelling (not us).
Lunch is on top at one of the overlooks, and then we hike back down the same way we came.
Ability Level: Approx 5 miles total, moderate/strenuous. It's 1400-feet elevation gain to the top.
Meeting time: 9:30 AM
The leader promises to wait 15 minutes before departing.
Meeting Location: Indian Trail Park & Ride
Go I-85 north outside the perimeter.
Take the Indian Trail Exit, Exit 101
