lunch at the grassy beach area.

The leader promises to wait 15 minutes after the scheduled meeting time before departing.

lot. Once inside the lot, turn right at the stop sign.

Lake Winfield Scott to Blood Mountain Loop Hike

Sunday, October 18, 2009, 8:45 a.m.

Leader: Charna Perloe, charna@email.com, 404-668-8554

It's time to get back into hiking, and this is a perfect hike to enjoy the changing of

the leaves in north Georgia. This 8.2 mile loop hike begins at Lake Winfield Scott

and incorporates three different trails. We start out on Slaughter Creek Trail with a

climb of 1000 feet in elevation over 2.7 miles before we reach the Appalachian Trail

with another ascent to the top of Blood Mountain. After lunch at the well-know picnic

rock, we'll come back down the AT going east and take the Jarrad Gap Trail back to

Lake Winfield Scott.

Ability Level: This is a moderate/strenuous hike. Total elevation gain
is about 1600 feet. For those who don't want to tackle the climb up Blood to
the lunch spot, you can wait for the group and do a shorter 6.2 mile loop.

Meeting Location: Mansell Road Park and Ride off Ga. 400, Exit 8

Meeting Time: 8:45am. We'll wait 15 minutes before leaving.
Thanks for being on time.

Bring: Hiking boots required, plenty of water, lunch, snacks, clothing
appropriate for the weather, optional hiking stick - useful for going downhill.

Dogs: Welcome. It's a popular trail, so make sure they're under your control

at all times.

Cost: Free to members, $5.00 for nonmembers or join for $25 annually.
**There is also a parking fee for cars at Lake Winfield Scott. We also ask that
everyone chip in for parking and reimburse their driver for the cost of gas.

MT. YONAH HIKE

Sunday, October 25 , 2009 at 9:30 AM

Leader: Charna Perloe 404-668-8554 charna@email.com

This hike follows a trail up to the top of the mountain for 2.5 miles where we'll pass by an Army training camp and helicopter pad.
There is one rock-scrambling section, and the climb to the top is rather steep in places. If time allows, we'll take a side trail
to the western face of the mountain, the exposed rock section where many folks go rock climbing and rapelling (not us).

Lunch is on top at one of the overlooks, and then we hike back down the same way we came.

Ability Level: Approx 5 miles total, moderate/strenuous. It's 1400-feet elevation gain to the top.

Meeting time: 9:30 AM
The leader promises to wait 15 minutes before departing.

Meeting Location: Indian Trail Park & Ride
Go I-85 north outside the perimeter.
Take the Indian Trail Exit, Exit 101

EXPAND YOUR NETWORKS: OCT. 1

INTERESTED IN EXPANDING YOUR LINKED IN CONNECTIONS? On OCT. 1 at noon EST I'm co-sponsoring a networking event with a few others
(it's free) for all of my contacts to meet each other... and the 1st level contacts of some other people I know. So I thought you
might want to participate as well. "The Big Link" is open to everyone as long as you can call a US phone number.

Now you might be thinking: "Networking event and telephone do NOT go together. You can't network over the phone." Not so! When you
dial in you get put into a private, one-on-one conversation with someone else for 5 minutes. Then the system automatically re-mixes
you into another private conversation for 5 minutes. Then another. Then another. You're building your network with conversations...
over the phone.

I know it's not the typical networking meeting, but that's what makes it all the more interesting. I hope you can attend. Just click
on this link:

June 5-7 Georgia Nantahala River camping weekend

From: Mosaic Outdoor Club of Georgia
Sent: Monday, April 06, 2009 10:09 AM

Registration is now open for our extremely popular Nantahala weekend.

This is our 10th or 11th or 12th anniversary year of sponsoring this event.

As always we will be camping in the peaceful Nantahala Forest while enjoying hiking, cookouts, campfire fun and the headliner event:
Paddling down the Nantahala River in inflatable kayaks. This year, we have added flatwater kayaking as another option on Sunday.

Annual Nantahala Camping and Kayaking Weekend
June 5 - June 7, 2009
Friday evening to Sunday afternoon
Adults only

Leaders: Charna, charna@email.com and Bonnie, tazlina25@comcast.net.

Have you heard about our annual Nantahala Weekend?

Head out of town on Friday afternoon, set up your tent, and get ready for fun with your Mosaic friends. There will be hiking, your
choice of whitewater or flatwater kayaking, or just hang out singing and schmoozing in the Nantahala Forest of beautiful western
North Carolina.

CAMPING: This year we're returning to the popular Appletree Campground near Andrews, NC
http://www.cs.unca.edu/nfsnc/recreation/appletree.pdf

Our home for the weekend will be in one of the four group sites available on the property. The campground offers a picnic shelter
and bath house with toilets and showers, so it isn't totally roughing it. We'll do cookouts and enjoy Shabbat under the stars. Your
weekend meals will include Friday Shabbat dinner through Sunday morning breakfast.

HIKING: Saturday we'll hike in groups on one of the many local trails, which include both the Bartram and the Appalachian Trail.
Easy/moderate and strenuous hikes will be planned depending on the ability levels of those who sign up.

KAYAKING: This year, we're offering both whitewater and flatwater kayaking. Both events take place on Sunday.

For those who want to go whitewater kayaking, there's a guide-assisted kayak trip down the Nantahala River with our outfitter, the
Nantahala Outdoor Center, www.noc.com. As in the past, we'll paddle down this fun dam-controlled river in individual duckies, or
inflatable kayaks. After safety instruction by the outfitter, we'll be on the river about 2-3 hours. This section of the Nantahala
River is rated Class II, with a Class III rapid at the end, which all paddlers will have the option to go down or not. This is a
guide-assisted trip, meaning we'll have 1 guide for every 6 people to help us navigate down the river. Previous whitewater paddling
experience is required, as this trip is not for beginners. Beginners may opt for a guided raft trip.

Our flatwater option is paddling your own kayak on Lake Nantahala. We will paddle across the pristine lake water to Clear Creek
Falls. Expect to finish around 3 PM. This flatwater paddle will be guided by our own Margery Diamond. It is required that you bring
your own equipment: flatwater kayak, paddle, PFD, etc. There are no kayak rentals on site. A complete list of what you will need
will be sent to those who choose this option.

You may want to do your own thing on Sunday, such as hike, fish, take in a scenic drive or relax at the campground.

REGISTRATION: Registration is now OPEN

We will need both the completed REGISTRATION FORM and your check to secure your spot.
http://documents.clubexpress.com/documents.ashx?key=KIIBjJ36woLt%2b4o9lIyS5BnpoY%2bw6oUwyKgYh3GG8WqbORkKdBCzY%2fxxDlnGa13ZlCbwbS02V7
o%3d

No exceptions.

COST: The cut-off date for the early bird rate is May 4th to get the price of $100 for members and $110 for nonmembers.

Make your check payable to Mosaic Outdoor Club of Georgia.
Mail to: PO Box 8185, Atlanta, GA 31106-0185.

As always, your check and completed registration form holds your spot.

After the May 4th early bird date, the rates go up to $125/member and $135/nonmember. The cancellation policy is on the registration
form.

Jewish Outdoor Adventures

Sunday, March 8, 2008: Dawn Mine from Millard Canyon

Note: Daylight Savings time begins this morning. Make sure you "spring forward" one hour on Saturday night, so as not to be late
for the hike.

Rating: intermediate (some boulder hopping and possible stream crossings)

Description
Five to six miles round trip with 1200 feet of elevation gain. Hike along a stream, partly on trail and partly boulder hopping.
Trail is mostly shaded. We may go into the mine, which consists of two tunnels, high enough to walk straight up for the most part.
There is normally a waterfall (depending on rainfall) in one of the tunnels and we may have to go into the water about one to two
feet deep in a couple of small places. We will have lunch by the old gold mine, and return via the Sunset Ridge road. No toilets
at trailhead.

What to bring
Bring a towel, a flashlight or a headlamp, and a pair of water sandals. Two liters water, lunch, snacks, hat, sunglasses,
sunscreen, hiking boots, daypack, jacket, and raingear (depending on weather). Clothes should be loose fitting, and light-colors
are preferable.

Meet at the western side of the parking lot of Albertson's supermarket, located on Venice Blvd , near Robertson Blvd (there is also
an Office Max and a Starbucks Coffee in the same shopping center). Park on the side street ( Durango Ave ) next to the parking lot.

Right to freeway 210W. Exit at Lincoln Avenue . Go North on Lincoln Avenue to Loma Alta Drive and make a right. Go to Chaney
Trail Drive and make a left. Go uphill to Sunset Ridge, make a left and park. We will meet by the locked gate blocking the Sunset
Ridge fire road. Closest place on Yahoo Maps:

Riverside and Hazeltine carpool: 9:25 Daylight Savings time
Meet in Sherman Oaks at the corner of Riverside Dr and Hazeltine Ave (between Woodman and Van Nuys Blvd ). Meet on Riverside Avenue
on the south side, across from Trader Joes. There will be no JOA representative here so form your own carpools.

Directions: 101E, to 134E to 210W to Lincoln Avenue . Continue as described above.

Loma Alta Dr and Chaney Trail Dr Carpool: 9:45 Daylight Savings time
